Alferna Jenny Dobbratz, 86, a resident of Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mayville, joined God”s heavenly choir on April, 20, 2013.
Fern was born March 10, 1927 in Horicon to Olaf and Alferna (Fowler) Olson. She graduated from Horicon High School in 1945. On August 30, 1947, she married Robert William Dobbratz in Horicon. The couple resided in Horicon all their lives except for a year long stay in Michigan while Bob was in the Air Force Reserves.
Fern worked at the A&P Restaurant and Sheri”s Marshland CafAC. in Horicon. She also worked at the Ice Cream Station. She was known for her good cooking and the delicious desserts she made and served with a smile for the Horicon Rotary Club for 42 years.
Fern was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon, its Ladies Guild and sang in the mixed choir. She was also a member of the Horicon Rotary Club and became a Paul Harris Fellow in 1983. Fern belonged to the Horicon Historical Society, served on the Highland Memory Garden Board of Directors and was a past president of the Horicon Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler and also enjoyed dog sitting for her friend”s and neighbor”s pets.
Alferna is survived by hers sons, Paul (Connie) Dobbratz of Rothschild, Wis. and Jack (Kathryn) Dobbratz of Mayville; four grandchildren Sarah (Chad) Wilczek and their children Aiden, Ava, and Mia of Appleton; Nathan Dobbratz of New Hope, Minn.; John Dobbratz of Crossville, Tenn; and Christy Dobbratz of Mayville; her special niece Ellen (Al) Shute of Oshkosh, one sister Violet Ferdon of Penn.; and many more nieces, nephews and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1996; sisters Francis, Bernice, Winfred, Thelma, Charlotte, Beatrice; and brothers Vincent, Eldon and Lloyd.
Visitation will be held at Murray Funeral Home in Horicon from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Relatives and friends may also pay their respects on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon from 9 a.m. until the time of service. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. with Pastors Daniel J. Seehafer and Jonathan D. Szczesny presiding. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton.
Memorials in Fern”s memory may be directed to St. Stephen Church and choir or to the Horicon Rotary Club.
The family thanks Hillside Hospice staff and the staff at Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation for their support and care throughout Fern”s battle with cancer.
