Alfred J. Schmid, age 85, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at his home in Beaver Dam.
A memorial gathering will be held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 511 S. Spring St in Beaver Dam, on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 11:30 AM to 12:50 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 PM. Fr. Michael Erwin will officiate. Inurnment will be at St. Peter”s Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Alfred John Schmid was born on May 10, 1927 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late Joseph and Martha (Wiegert) Schmid. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II; Al served in both the Philippines and in Japan. On November 26, 1951, he was united in marriage with Ivy Hoch. Al owned and operated Schmid”s Black Gold Gas in Beaver Dam for 47 years, retiring in the early 1990”s. He enjoyed flying his Aircoupe airplane that he owned and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Family was very important to Al and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Beaver Dam.
Survivors include his wife Ivy Schmid of Beaver Dam; three children, David Schmid (Leta Fisher) of Fall River, Susan (Kevin) McGill of Madison, and Janis Healy (Kent Yunker) of Delavan; his daughter-in-law, Jodeen Schmid of Ft. Atkinson; four grandchildren, Danielle, Matthew, Michael, and Sarah; three great grandchildren; his sister, Agnes (Lester) Wackett of Beaver Dam; his brother, Richard Schmid of Beaver Dam, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jim Schmid; four brothers, Emil, John, Joe, and Ed; and two sisters, Lillian Gossfeld and Marie Wackett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Alfred J. Schmid”s name to St. Katharine Drexel Parish or to Hillside HomeCare/Hospice.
