On April 15, 2009, Amanda Hurley of Horicon joyfully went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Amanda was born to Gustuv and Meta Tews on February 19, 1913 in Marshfield, Wisconsin. It was a hardworking life for Amanda being part of a large farm family. In 1929, she moved to Beaver Dam. She met Verne Hurley, the love of her life, and they were joined in marriage on August 19, 1933. Amanda worked at Huth-James Shoe Factory in Horicon and then, for 30 years, at Weyenberg Shoe Factory in Beaver Dam. She loved her job and reluctantly retired at age 71. Amanda was an active member of St. Malachy”s Catholic Church, now known as Sacred Heart Catholic Church, for over 65 years. She was a part of women”s organizations and prayer groups within the church. She was their little ole coleslaw maker for their Swiss steak dinners and fish fries for over 50 years. Attending church was the highlight of her week. Many thanks to granddaughter Bernie who made sure she got there. Amanda was a happy loving Christian woman with an amazing smile. She was content with the simple things in life. She loved going for walks, reading, praying, and the word of God. She loved good food, especially cookies. She made every Christmas special with her famous cut-out cookies.
Her joy in life was her family. She will be greatly missed by her son, John (Lois) Hurley, her daughter, Mary (Jack) Davis, 22 grandchildren, Doreen Mueller, Tim (Ellen) Mueller, Steve (Bernie) Mueller, Tom (Kiley) Mueller, Beth (Eduardo) Chanto, Dan (Carrie) Mueller, Ann (Jeff) Firari, Linda (John) Schultz, Greg (Cleo) Mueller, Mary (Craig) Wiedmeyer, Tony (Lisa) Hurley, David (Jane) Hurley, Cheryl (Fred) Saltzmann, Brenda (Scott) Preisler, Sarah (Todd) Spielvogel, Jack (Jayne) Davis, Tracy (Scott) McCue, Matthew (Tina) Davis, Melissa (Bob) Leberak, Sean (Christine) Davis, Nathan Davis, and Amanda Davis, 53 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
