Armin F. Laabs, age 89, of Horicon, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at Marvin”s Manor in Horicon.
Visitation for Armin will be at St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church in Horicon on Monday, June 7, 2010 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at church on Monday, beginning at 1:00 PM. Rev. Jonathan Szczesny will officiate. Burial will be at Hochheim Cemetery in the Town of Herman, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Armin Fred Laabs was born on March 25, 1921 in Withee, Wisconsin to the late Herman and Marie (Kallsen) Laabs. He was baptized on April 10, 1921 in Withee and later confirmed, on June 23, 1935, at Immanual Lutheran Church in the Town of Theresa. He attended school in Wausau and also at Hochheim Lutheran School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Italy during World War II. Armin farmed in the Theresa area and then worked at Maysteel for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. In retirement, he helped at Murray Funeral Home in Horicon in unseen but important ways. Armin was a member of the American Legion Post # 157 in Horicon. He was also a long-time and active member St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church in Horicon where he served as an usher for 20 years and helped in many other ways as well.
Survivors include his four children, Armin “Butch” (Pat) Laabs, Jr. of Mayville, Sharon (Larry) Collett of Tocoma, WA, Sandra (Rick) Klemme of Horicon, and Daniel (Jessica) Laabs of Battleground, WA,; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Herman (Ginny) Laabs of Mesa, AZ, Doris Sternberg of Hartford, Ruth Warnke of Minnesota, Norma Jahnke of Minnesota, Arnold (Florence) Laabs, Norbert (Lou) Laabs, and Waldo (Lois) Laabs, all of Florida; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Armin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rose on October 4, 1993; his son Dennis in June of 1950; two grandchildren, Precious Justman and Kaye Saulsbury; three brothers, Paul, Albert, and Ernest Laabs; and a sister, Erma Brandenstein.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Armin Laabs” name to St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church, 505 North Palmatory Street, Horicon, WI 53032, and designated for either the Food Pantry or Future Generation (Child Care Building Fund).
