Arthur F. Schlaff, age 101, of Beaver Dam, died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Charleston House Memory Care in Beaver Dam.
Visitation will be at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 S. Spring Street in Beaver Dam on Monday, April 2, 2012 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Monday beginning at 11:00 AM. Fr. Michael Erwin will officiate. Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Arthur Fred Schlaff was born on December 19, 1910 in Osage, Iowa to the late Ben and Mary (Glinsterbloom) Schlaff. He served in the European Theater of Operations with the 83rd Division of the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman”s Badge and Battle Stars for Rhineland and Central Europe. On July 3, 1948, he was united in marriage with Fern Steil at the rectory of St. Peter”s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Art worked at Monarch Range, Ziegler Brewery, Home Dairy, and retired from Metalfab in 1975. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Beaver Dam.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, George (Kathleen) Steil of Beaver Dam; nieces and nephews, Janine (Curt) Jorgensen of Beaver Dam, Maureen Steil of Sparks, NV, and Greg (Julie) Steil of Beaver Dam, other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern in 2006; two brothers, Albert Schlaff and Walter Schlaff; a sister, Dorothy Beer; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Pearl (nee: Steil) Hilling.
If desired, memorials may be made in Arthur Schlaff”s name to St. Katharine Drexel School Endowment or Meals-on-Wheels.
The family would like to thank Eagles Wings, Charleston House, and Generations Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Art over the past five years.
