Arthur W. Sturm, age 95, of Beaver Dam, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Waupun Christian Home.
Visitation for Arthur will be at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 127 W. Maple Avenue in Beaver Dam, on Monday, May 17, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Monday, beginning at 11:00 AM. Fr. Michael Sturm will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter”s Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Arthur William Sturm was born on March 28, 1915 in West Bend, Wisconsin to the late Otto L. and Mary (nee Bodin) Sturm. He graduated from Pio Nono High School in Milwaukee and attended St. Mary”s College from 1937 to 1938. In 1943, Arthur graduated from Loyola University Dental School with a DDS degree. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on July 24, 1942 and entered active duty on July 24, 1943. Arthur served in the American Theater, the European Theater, and with the 1637th Engineer Battalion in the Asiatic Theater before receiving his honorable discharge on September 8, 1946 with the rank of Captain. On May 26, 1951, he was united in marriage with Cecelia Thompson in Waukegan, IL. Arthur was employed by the State of Wisconsin, Department of Health and Social Services and also maintained a limited home-based dental office until he retired in 1989. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, formerly St. Patrick”s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Dental Association.
Survivors include his wife Cecelia Sturm of Beaver Dam; three sons, Robert Sturm of Beaver Dam, Paul (Mary) Sturm of Beaver Dam, and William Sturm (fiancAC., Lorraine Zoesch) of Appleton; a son-in-law, Jeffrey Meyer of Beaver Dam; two grandchildren, Matthew ( Katie) Meyer and Alison Meyer; great grandson, Jude Meyer; a sister, Sylvia (Robert) Coates of Waukegan, IL; other relatives and friends. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Claudia Meyer; a brother, Gregory Sturm; and a sister, Mary Sustman.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Arthur W. Sturm”s name to Susan B. Komen Foundation for the Cure NC Triangle Affiliate; 133 Fayetteville, St. Suite 300; Raleigh, NC 27601.
