Adelheid Barbara Hartzheim, age 85, a life-long Beaver Dam resident, died Monday, August 22, 2011 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Visitation for Barbara will be at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, 511 South Spring Street in Beaver Dam, on Friday August 26, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church on Friday at 12:00 Noon. Fr. Michael J. Erwin will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter”s Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
The former Adelheid Barbara Hutter was born on June 8, 1926 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late Albert and Adelheid (Ziegler) Hutter. She attended St. Peter”s Catholic School and was a 1943 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. Barbara was the Prom Queen at Beaver Dam High School as a Sophomore; she also attended Wayland Academy and Mount Mary College. On April 19, 1947, she was united in marriage with John “Jack” Hartzheim at St. Peter”s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam.
Her family owned and operated the Ziegler Brewery and Hutter Construction Company in Beaver Dam. She resided in the family home that her father built, a house that has a rich history with both family companies. Barbara had been a member of St. Peter”s Catholic Church and later St. Michael”s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Society; she was a current member of St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church. Barbara volunteered at the Beaver Dam Care Center for over 13 years and served as a poll worker in Beaver Dam for over 30 years. She loved to fish, bowl, play bridge and other card games, and she enjoyed her trips to the casino. Barbara enjoyed visiting and telling stories and history of Beaver Dam with family, relatives, and friends.
Survivors include her five children, Michael (Diane) Hartzheim of Beaver Dam, Peter (Pat) Hartzheim of Fox Lake, Larry (Joanne) Hartzheim of Beaver Dam, Paul (friend Joanne Webber) Hartzheim of Beaver Dam, and Heidi (David) Elgersma of Beaver Dam; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Laura, Stan, Adam, Alex, Christa, and John; five great grandchildren, Raymond, Koby, Karter, Kleyten, and Adelyn; a sister-in law, Beth Hutter of Thorp, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1995; two brothers, Karl and Albert Hutter; and two sisters, Helen Hutter and Marie Springborn.
If desired, memorials may be made in Barbara Hartzheim”s name to Beaver Dam Community Hospital Foundation or St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church Renovation Fund.
