Barbara L. Gardner, age 83, formerly of Poynette, died on Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Remembrance Home in Beaver Dam.
The memorial gathering will be at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Randolph on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM. The memorial service will follow at the church on Sunday at 1:30 PM with Rev. Linda Heisler officiating. Inurnment will be at Rocky Run Cemetery, Town of Lowville, Columbia County.
Barbara Lee Walters was born on November 22, 1927 in Poynette, Wisconsin to Arthur S. and Janette (Delaney) Walters. On March 28, 1952, she was united in marriage with John Gardner in Poynette. Barb was the perfect military wife. She was the “mother hen” on each base that she lived on. Anyone that couldn”t make it to their homes for the holidays had a place at Barb”s home. Barb also volunteered as a candy striper on the base. She had a love for animals and her dog, Oscar, would go everywhere with her. Barb was a very active member of the Eastern Star. She will be remembered for her big heart. Barb was the hero of her own life story.
Survivors are her children, Evelyn (Chuck) Leystra of Randolph, and John B. Gardner of Beaver Dam, grandchildren, Tara (Dustin) Nielsen of Poynette and Dana Leystra (Ben Force) of Oak Park, IL, brother, Byron (Ellie) Walters of Rio, sister-in-law, Emma Husie of Galesville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John in 2008 and her beloved dog, Oscar.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Barbara L. Gardner”s name to the Alzheimer”s Association, 620 South 76th Street, Suite 160, Milwaukee, WI 53214.
