Bertha V. Towne, age 93, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at her home in Beaver Dam.
Funeral services will be held at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Rev. John C. White will officiate. Friends and relatives can visit with the family and join them for a light luncheon in the funeral home immediately following the service.
Bertha was born April 18, 1920, the daughter of William and Teni (Vande Slunt) Van Galen. On June 24, 1950, she married Charles Towne and the couple lived on a farm east of Waupun on County Trunk I, for most of their lives. Charlie died in 1996. Bertha moved in with her daughter, Debra in Beaver Dam after her husband”s death. Bertha was a charter member of Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun and a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years.
Bertha is survived by two daughters, Debra Towne and Teresa Towne, both of Beaver Dam; grandson, Vince Gorman of Waupun; brother, Ted (Bev) Van Galen of Georgia; other relatives and friends. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;
three sisters, Alice Van Loo, Harriet Giebink, and Henrietta Aalsma; and three brothers, Gerrit, Delmar, and Wilbert Van Galen.
In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials can be sent to her daughters, who will make contributions to Bertha”s favorite charities.
