Blanche L. “Tommie” Colvin, age 91, of Beaver Dam, died Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
Visitation for Blanche will be held at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Sunday, March 2, 2008 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home on Sunday, beginning at 1:00 PM. Angel Anaya will officiate.
The former Blanche L. Thompson was born on January 18, 1917 in Brushton, New York to the late Moses and Mary Elizabeth (Murphy) Thompson. She attended Brushton Grade school and graduated from Chateaugay High School. Blanche went on to attend New York State University and following graduation, she served a dietician internship at Long Island Hospital in New York. On March 4, 1943, she was united in marriage with Orville Colvin in Yonkers, New York. She worked as an assistant dietician at the Brooklyn Eye and Ear Hospital and the Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City. Blanche also worked as the food manager at the Waldorf Hotel Employee cafeteria. After moving to Beaver Dam, she worked as a dietician at Lutheran Hospital for 14 years and then at Hillside Hospital once they merged. Blanche was one of the original team members of the Meals-On-Wheels Program in Beaver Dam. She retired in 1977 and moved to Jump River Wisconsin and was a past president of the VFW Auxiliary #2977. Blanche moved back to Beaver Dam in 1994 and was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish.
Blanche is survived by her son, Michael (Sarah) Colvin of Green Bay, her grandson, Kevin (Lacey) Colvin of Fond du Lac, a special friend, Sherry Colvin of Beaver Dam, two sisters, Marguerite Higgens of New Hartford, NY and Alma Houmiel of Ogdensberg, NY, two brothers, Harold (Frances) Thompson of Chase Mills, NY and Francis (Pat) Thompson of Brick, NJ, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Lloyd Thompson and Howard Thompson.
