Burton H. Beyer, Beaver Dam, went to his heavenly home to be with his beloved wife, Elaine, at the age of 89. Burt passed away on November 9, 2018 at Sylvan Crossing in Beaver Dam. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Road, Beaver Dam with the Beaver Dam American Legion to gather at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. to pay their respects. A gathering will also be held on Saturday, November 17th from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam. A celebration of Burt’s life will follow at the church on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. The Rev. Cherie Forret will officiate. Military honors conducted by the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146 will immediately follow the funeral at the church. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, township of Trenton at a later date. Born on March 6, 1929 to Harry and Laura (Wollenburg) Beyer, Burt was a 1947 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. He married the love of his life, Elaine (Bussewitz) on April 3, 1954. Together they had 2 children, Jeffrey and Julie, who were their pride and joy. Burt and Elaine enjoyed life to the fullest and were married for 59 years. Burt was employed by Wisconsin Telephone Company for 32 years and retired in 1985. He saw action in Korea from 1951 to 1953 and was a member of the John E. Miller Post 146. Burt and Elaine loved to travel and were fortunate to travel to Europe, Alaska, twice to Hawaii and many other places around the country. After retiring, they purchased a motor home and traveled to all 48 states and twice to Canada. He enjoyed woodworking, talking with friends and neighbors, dancing to Big Band music, but mostly spending time with family. He was a member of Trinity Church – United Methodist where he enjoyed many church activities including ushering, being a greeter, working with the rummage sales, and helping wherever needed. He was an active member of the Beaver Dam community including the Beaver Dam Sr. Citizen woodshop where he took particular pride in refurbishing a sleigh in 2017, local VFW, his church, and Habitat for Humanity. He was thrilled to be selected to go on the Badger Honor Flight on May 16, 2015 with his son, Jeff. Burt was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine in March 2013, brother and sister-in-law Warren and Martha Beyer, sister Nancy Beyer, mother and father-in-law, Gertrude and Stanley Draheim, brother-in-law, Jerrold Bussewitz, daughter-in-law Laura Beyer, and other relatives. Burt is survived by his two children: son Jeffrey Beyer (special friend Beth Roedl) and daughter Julie (Dan) White; grandchildren Jenny (Steve) Kupcho, Matt (Ellie) White, and Adam (Becky) Beyer; step-grandson Ryan Kline; great-grandchildren Benjamin Kupcho, Ian White, Laura White; step-great-grandchildren Ethan Koopmans, Stephanie Kline and Brandon Kline; and other friends and relatives. If desired, memorials in Burt’s name may be directed to Hillside Hospice, Trinity Church – United Methodist, or to St. John’s Lutheran Church, all of Beaver Dam. The family would like to thank everyone at Hillside Hospice and Homecare for the care and concern shown to Burt and the entire family during his last journey, Pastor Cherie Forret, the staff at Sylvan Crossing and Visiting Angels, the “Cozy Corner” group at Trinity, the “guys” at the woodshop, neighbors, and his many friends for their prayers and visits.
