Clarence “Metzie” Metzdorf, age 94, of Horicon, died Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held at the Murray Funeral Home in Horicon on Thursday, April 17, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon on Friday, April 18, 2008 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will follow at church on Friday beginning at 11:00 AM. Pastor Daniel Seehafer will officiate. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery.
Clarence was born on January 9, 1914 in the Town of Hustisford, Dodge County, Wisconsin to the late Herman and Selma (Kronitz) Metzdorf. On May 14, 1938, he was united in marriage with Selma “Sally” Ewert at St. John”s Lutheran Church in Woodland, Wisconsin. Together they owned and operated “Metzie & Sally”s Bar” in downtown Horicon for over 30 years and they later worked at Green Giant. Sally preceded Metzie in death on October 5, 2002. Music was an important part of his life as he enjoyed playing the concertina and was the leader of the “Spanish Nights” band. Clarence was a long-time member of St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon.
Survivors include three children, Carol (Bumpy) Schaefer of Neshkoro, Wayne Metzdorf of Horicon and Ken (Linda) Metzdorf of Horicon, eight grandchildren, Mike (Carolyn) Schaefer, Todd Schaefer (special friend Brigid), Dawn (Scott) Kollmansberger, Lisa (Kelly) Bunkoske, Krista Metzdorf, Scott (Kellie) Metzdorf, Ryan (Ana) Metzdorf and Christine (Brian) Martin, 12 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Metzdorf was preceded in death by his wife Sally, sister, Alice Kolell, brother, Edgar Metzdorf and his daughter-in-law, Sue Metzdorf.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Clarence Metzdorf”s name to St. Stephen Ev. Lutheran Church in Horicon.
