BEAVER DAM – David R. Bestor, age 80, of Beaver Dam, Wis. passed away unexpectedly at his home July 11, 2011.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15 at Grace Presbyterian Church, Beaver Dam, with the Rev. Dee Talley officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday. Following a luncheon at the church, there will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison.
He was born June 14, 1931 in Osco, Ill. to Albert Leo and Bertrice Bestor. He attended Osco school and graduated from Orion High School in 1949. He attended Western Illinois Teachers” College in Macomb, Ill. and served in the U.S. Army in the early 1950s in Korea during the war.
David married Elizabeth Greer on May 25, 1955 in Davenport, Iowa. After their marriage, David worked as director of several Chambers of Commerce throughout Iowa and Illinois. They moved to Madison, Wis. where they lived for many years and raised their family. David worked as a sales representative and travelled throughout Wisconsin. He later became director of economic development for the city of Fox Lake, Wis.
David was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Madison and later Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam and served as both elder and deacon.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, Beaver Dam; daughters Susan (Patrick) Stewart, Rockford, Ill.; and Mary Jane (John) Grenzow, Monroe, Wis.; and son Lindsey, Madison; grandchildren Andrew (Elizabeth) Bestor, Leavenworth, Kan.; Shelbie Bestor, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Catherine and Bennett Stewart, Rockford; and Elizabeth, Sarah and Christina Grenzow, Monroe; great-grandson Jet Bestor, Leavenworth; brother Henry Bestor, Tallahassee, Fla.; sisters-in-law Marjory Lichtenberg, Beaver Dam, and Dorothy Wiggs, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son J. Andrew; and sister Margaret Fransene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or Grace Presbyterian Church.
