Delbert L. ‘Leo’ Desjarlais, 85, of Columbus died peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Columbus Nursing and Rehab. Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Daniel Sims officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30th from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Koepsell-Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus, and also on Monday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.
Leo was born the son of Clifford and Mary (Burie) Desjarlais on April 3, 1928 in Banat, MI. He was married to LaVerne Delores Tiedt on May 3, 1949 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus. Leo was employed most of his working years as a mechanic, both on automobiles and tractors.
Leo was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and small engine repair. Leo also enjoyed playing euchre and pool. While at the Columbus Nursing Home, he enjoyed playing bingo with the other residents. Leo was a loving husband and father. He will be remembered as an outgoing, social person who loved to be around people.
Leo is survived by his children: Nancy (Lydon) Cole of Sun Prairie, Judith (Richard) Boehnen of Lodi, Delbert (Elaine) Desjarlais of Columbus, Beth (Daniel) Heiniger of Columbus, Barbara (Kelly) Green of Deforest and Angela (Timothy) Hauge of Columbus; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Arlene Webb of Menomonee, MI and Faye (Harry) Westover of Coloma, WI; two brothers: William Desjarlais of Marinette, WI and Ralph (Jean) Desjarlais of South Beaver Dam; his special friend, Eleanor Scheiding of Columbus; his dog and faithful companion, Smokey and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife LaVerne in 1996, his grandson Jeremiah Arthur, his granddaughter Heather Hermanson and five brothers.
