Del always helped. We first met him with Wings Over Wisconsin where he helped make the organization better. Later he joined the Senior Center on Third Street helping in so many ways to make the Center better. I will remember him sitting at the table at the Center completing the Daily Citizen crossword puzzle at the Watermark. He offered of himself making him a truly great person. Our sympathy to the family. May God find ways for Del to be helpful in Heaven. Rest in peace, Del. Terry and Kay Appenfeldt

Del's family members are in our hearts and prayers this week as you celebrate the life this very special individual who impacted my life and writing. I had a unique experience hearing his life story-lots of which made it into our book, "Nobody's Hero," and lots that never made it in. He loved his family very much and was so fortunate to live as long he had did, thanking God every day for his existence. I met Del working on the committee to fundraise for the Watermark and our friendship grew from there. Missing you, Del, but so thankful for your service and your extended family. Del always had a big, warm smile, a twinkle in his eye, and a strong shake. It was a privelege knowing Del and Lola and their love for each other was a great example. Love and God Bless, Chuck Frinak
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Was there ever a man as sweet, generous and amazing to know as Del? Perhaps a few, and I was one of the lucky ones to have known and worked with him on The Watermark project, through the fun activities and events at the Senior Center and he is one of the many friends I made who have left a permanent impression on my heart and spirit. I was delighted to have known his wife Lola as well. They are the two of the reasons I never thought of my position with the City as a job. I am sad I will no longer get to visit with Del, happy trails to you my friend - say hello to the others who have passed on from me, one day it will be my turn too. Evonne Boettge

Del taught me more baseball skills than anybody else. He was a great coach & role model. I had the pleasure to talk with him again about 4 years ago when he signed a copy of "Nobody's Hero" for an injured Marine friend of mine. I was honored when he asked if I'd like him to sign my copy too. I was totally impressed when he recalled details about the Little League game where I hit the game-winning home run to complete our undefeated season of the Pirates. While I visited my parents at The Golden Living Center I gained even more respect for him. He visited Lola everyday and I couldn't help but see his love & devotion to her. I have never had more respect for ANY Person than I had for Del. His PTSD is finally over. RIP my friend.

I took Sheepshead lessons from Del and a friendship developed. I've spent many a fun evening playing cards and enjoying the friendship of others that I met through Del. Family commitment prevents me from attending the memorial but I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family. He talked about his family often and said family always comes first. My heart is saddened with the news of Del's passing.

My prayer and thoughts are with the family of Del. He was a great man to be with as he was a member of the Watermark for years. It was a pleasure of knowing him.
