Our loving mother, Doris Schmidt, passed away peacefully on Monday October 6th 2014 at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du lac WI. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 11th at at 1:00 p.m Koepsell Funeral Home, Mayville. A gathering for friends and family will be held on Saturday, October 11th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.Ida Dora Schneider Schmidt was born on July 17, 1926 in her Grandfather Abraham’s house located in Heubude, Germany, just off the shore of the Baltic Sea. Doris was the sixth child born to Albert and Antonia Abraham Schneider. She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Heubude, Germany. After high school graduation, Doris completed her education as a nurse, where she used her skills during WWII. After the war, she met and married Waldemar Schmidt on July 9, 1949 in Olpe, Germany. Together they had 3 children, Renate, Harry and Petra while living in Olpe. With the vision of a new beginning, they arrived on March 7,1957 in Waseca, MN. While in MN, Doris was employed by the Brown Printing Co. and Byrd’s Eye Canning Co. She was so proud to become a working and English speaking American citizen. Three more children were born in Waseca, Carol, Dagmar and Mark. After 10 years in MN, the family moved to Mayville, WI. Doris was employed at Mayville Metal until her retirement. After retirement, she moved to Fond du Lac. She received her driver’s license and bought her first car. This was a life changing adventure for Doris. She enjoyed many trips to MN, MO and CA to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing many meals over the years with friends and family at Schreiner’s Restaurant, where she celebrated her 88th birthday. Doris was a very social person and enjoyed many years as a member of the German Club which led to great lasting friendships. She loved to cook, bake, clean, shop, sing, dance and tell stories. She will be remembered for touching many lives and her amazing apple kuchen, her Christmas dinners of beef roulanden and red cabbage. Doris’ greatest joy and passion was her family. She poured out all of her love into her most precious possessions, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her greatest gift was her unending love and support.Survivors include: 1 son Harry (Elizabeth) Schmidt San Diego, CA, 4 daughters, Renate (Mike) Schaetzel of Fond du Lac, Petra Schmidt of Wausau, Carol ( Steve) Griep of Mayville, Dagmar (Mike) Davis of Alexandria MN; her grandchildren- Stefanie (Ken) Henderson of San Diego, CA, Brian (Becky) Griep of Appleton, Eric (Hannah) Wild of Cobb CA, Jared (Kelli) Griep of Grafton, Jennifer (Dr. Andy) Windsperger of St. Cloud, MN, Laura (Vince) Kraemer of Alexandria, MN; her great grandchildren- Aiden Henderson of San Diego, CA, and Owen Griep of Grafton, WI. Doris was preceded in death by: her parents, her son Mark Schmidt, brothers and sisters, Waldemar Schmidt, her son-in-law Dennis WiId, and her grandson Mark Wild.Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Ev.
