Dorothy Caroline Koehler, age 99, formerly of Horicon, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. She resided at the Charleston House in Beaver Dam since December of 2003.
Visitation for Dorothy will be at the Murray Funeral Home, 716 Clinton Street in Horicon, on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM. Funeral service will follow at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tim Worgan officiating. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Horicon.
Miss Koehler was born in Horicon on February 28, 1914 to Henry and Emma (Schielke) Koehler. She attended Van Brundt Grade School and graduated from Horicon High School in 1932.
Dorothy was employed as a clerk at St. Joseph”s Clothing Store in Horicon until 1933. She then attended business school in Fond du Lac to increase her knowledge of typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping. In 1937, she was employed at the Van Brundt Manufacturing Company, which is now known as John Deere Horicon Works. She worked in the shipping department, factory payroll department, and then in the accounting department until her retirement in 1972.
Upon retirement from John Deere, Dorothy enjoyed many travel experiences in various areas of the United States and Canada where she visited her many relatives and friends. Dorothy later expanded her travels to the continents of Europe and Asia, including the countries of Japan and Mexico.
She loved reading, music, baking, and flowers. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, and playing the piano.
All her life, Dorothy was a faithful and active member of the Horicon Emmanuel United Methodist Church. For many years she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and found mission work rewarding. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and Friendship Circle for approximately 40 years and held various offices in both groups.
Survivors include her nephew Calvin Koehler of Horicon, other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by parents, her brother Ralph in 1977, her brother Fred in 2004, and sisters-in-law Alexa in 1998 and Paula in 2001.
