Duane “Hans” Franke, 80, of Beaver Dam went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen”s Ev. Lutheran Church, 300 West St., Beaver Dam with the Rev. Seth Dorn officiating. A visitation will also be held on Friday, May 2nd from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146.
Duane Hans was born on April 3, 1934 the son of Melbert and Lillian H. (Haas) Franke in Beaver Dam. He was a 1953 graduate of Beaver Dam High School where he participated in basketball, football and baseball. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. On August 15, 1959, he was married to Nancy J. Selchert at St. Stephen”s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
Hans had been employed at the Monarch Range Company as a foreman of the brake press room, and later worked in Algoma for another four years at Monarch Ware. Following, he was employed at Ru-Mar in Mayville. Hans had also been the custodian at St. Stephen”s Ev. Lutheran Church and School for many years, as well as, a crossing guard with the City of Beaver Dam.
Baseball played a big part in Hans” life. He enjoyed playing baseball, as well as, coaching his sons” teams and other Little League teams and enjoyed attending many baseball games. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards and watching sports on TV, especially the Green Bay Packers
Hans was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Nancy; his sons: Gary D. (Bobbi) Franke of Hutto, TX and Judd A. (Teresa) Franke of Kewaunee, WI; four grandchildren: Tara (Scott) Garner, Jared (Jenny) Franke, Justin Franke and Jennifer Franke; five great grandchildren: Mariss, Brigg, Memphis, Justus and Jaycee; sisters and brother: Janice Franke Loy, Jerry Scooter (Lelani) Franke and Christine Teeder Franke all of Beaver Dam. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law, sister Charleen Ganske, brother Alan Franke, nephew Guy Franke and brother-in-law Jack Selchert.
