Elmer W. Rehse

Elmer W. Rehse, 83, of Horicon passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the UW Hospital in Madison surround by his family.Funeral services for Elmer will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon with the Rev. Mark Hasty officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Horicon and on Wed. Jan. 14th from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon with graveside Military Honors by the American Legion Post #157 of Horicon.Elmer was born on August 27, 1931 in Horicon, the son of Elmer and Esther (Neitzel) Rehse. He was a 1948 graduate of Horicon High School.Elmer took over his grandfather’s insurance agency in 1951 and owned and operated The Rehse Agency until his retirement in 1991. He was also co-owner of the Wooden Shingle. He was a member of Zion Lutheran church in Horicon.Elmer was very proud to have served in the US Marines during the Korean War and has been a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post #157 for over 60 years. Elmer was a very active volunteer in Horicon and the surrounding area. He was instrumental in the forming of Rock River Hills Golf Course, co-chairman of Horicon Marsh Days for many years, past member of the Horicon School Board, past president of Horicon Chamber, recipient of the Wall of Fame Award at Horicon High School, secretary of Horicon Baseball Inc. since inception, and the manager of the Horicon Honkers, member of the Isaac Walton League, past president of the Dodge County Independent Insurance Agents, director of the Horicon AA Group, member of the Horicon Oddfellows, member of the board of the New Beginnings Homeless Shelter, member of Horicon Rotary where he has served as past president, co-chair of STRIVE, and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, baseball, and going to the Milwaukee Symphony with the Grigg’s.Elmer is survived by his children, Neal (Kathy) Rehse of Cudahy and Tim (Gretchen) Rehse of Racine; one granddaughter, Nikki (Clint) Daniels of Kenosha; great-grandchildren: Felicity, Jacub, Kiyah, Jack and Ethan; brothers, Jerry (Lois) Rehse of Horicon and Jim (Carol) Rehse of Mountain Home, AR; sister-in-law, Candy Rehse of Horicon; other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Peter Rehse.Memorial donations in Elmer’s name may be directed to New Beginnings Homeless Shelter.
