Elsie Lena Schreiber Bleifuss, age 97, passed away peacefully at Oregon Manor Nursing Home on Saturday, August 24, 2013. Elsie was born in Berlin, Germany in 1916. She came to the United States at the age of 8 yrs., arriving at Ellis Island and settled in Wisconsin with her family in 1923. Elsie was very proud of her German heritage and enjoyed sharing her memories of Germany with family and friends.
Elsie married Rudolph Bleifuss in 1948 in Reeseville, WI. Elsie lived in Reeseville for most of her life except for the past 2 years. Elsie was a very integral member of the Reeseville community. She was employed at Reinhard Lumber Company as a bookkeeper for 40 yrs. She was a loyal volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aids, Dodge County Commission on Aging and the Meal site Program. Elsie was a very active member of her church, Trinity Lutheran. She served as an officer of Lowell and Reeseville Senior Citizen organization and served as a German language tutor for the high school students at Lowell-Reeseville High School.
Elsie was very proud to have been honored as valedictorian at Custer High School in Milwaukee, WI. She developed many lasting friendships over the years and had a special fondness for her Ladies Aide group. Elsie enjoyed music, gardening, canning, cooking and raising her many animals on her property in Reeseville.
Elsie enjoyed the simple thing s in life and appreciated nature and the outdoors. She especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.
The unconditional love and simple kindnesses that Elsie shared with her family, relatives and friends will always be treasured and provide us with many fond memories.
Elsie is survived by her beloved son, Ted and his wife Gerrie of Verona, WI and her three adored grandchildren; Scott, Dan and Jackie. Other survivors include her nephews; Carl (Pat) Keel, Robert (Shirley) Keel, John (Sandy) Keel, Walter Buschkopf and LaVerne Bleifuss and niece, Ruth Zastrow. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph; parents, Gustav and Bertha Schreiber; sister, Henrietta Keel and brother, Eberhardt Schreiber; and niece, MaryAnne Buschkopf.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Care Wisconsin and Oregon Manor staff who provided great support and assistance to the family while Elsie was a resident at Oregon Manor. A special thanks to Lisa Graeve for her loyal visits over the years.
The family would also like to acknowledge the Michuda family for welcoming Elsie and including her as part of their extended family.
The visitation for Elsie will be a Trinity Lutheran Church in Reeseville on Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at the church on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Matthew Martin officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery.
