Elvira E. Schlitt, nee Derge, age 90, of Hartford, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Wellington Place in Hartford.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Peace Ev. Lutheran Church in Hartford from 10:00 AM until the time of service. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM at the church. Rev. Aaron Steinbrenner will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
The former Elvira Derge was born on September 8, 1917, in the Town of Herman in Dodge County, to the late Irvin and Olga (Milbrot) Derge. Elvira was united in marriage to John Schlitt on May 22, 1948 at the Peace Ev. Lutheran Church Parsonage in Hartford.
When Elvira was 12 years old she won a state contest in hand milking a cow. Elvira worked at the Libby”s Canning Company for over 40 canning seasons. She was a longtime member of Peace Ev. Lutheran Church in Hartford. Elvira was an avid Brewers and Packers fan. She was also very proud of and enjoyed working in her garden and was a very good sheepshead player. Elvira was always happy to spend time with her nieces and nephews and her family was very important to her.
She is survived by one sister, Fern (Alfred) Bublitz of Hartford and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John on October 5, 2001 and her bother and sister-in-law, Delmar and Viola Derge.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Elvira Schlitt”s name to Peace Ev. Lutheran Church Building Fund.
