Esther Alice Bach was born in Beaver Dam on May 22, 1920 to Frank and Anna (Schmidt) Bach. She married Raphael Caughlin on October 25, 1941 and they lived their entire married life in Beaver Dam. Esther most recently lived at Eagles Wings where the residents and staff will surely miss her.
Esther worked for many years at J.C. Penney. She was dedicated to St. Michael”s Catholic Church and the Rosary Society, and put in countless hours for Knights of Columbus endeavors. She always had something to donate and made herself available to volunteer for many causes.
Esther and Ray”s oldest child was physically and mentally handicapped, and she cared for him at home until he was in his 40”s. She regularly visited Ron in the various facilities he later lived and provided companionship to many of the other residents as well. Instead of concealing him from the world, Esther exposed Ron to fun activities that every human being deserves. Esther was active with the Association for Retarded Citizens of Dodge County, serving in many capacities including Treasurer, and was honored by the state organization for her years of dedication. Her other loves included animals, especially dogs.
Esther loved to bake and decorate cakes for all occasions. She baked dozens of fancy cookies, only to give them away to family, friends, neighbors and people whom she felt might be overlooked or needy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raphael in 1995, son Timothy (in infancy), and sons Ronald and Robert in 2006, along with her sister Eleanor “Blanche” Meyer and husband Walter, brothers Bud Bach and Anton Bach and his wife Selma, and parents Frank and Anna.
Esther is survived by three of her children: Richard (Jan) Caughlin, Marcia (Steven) Haase and Lynn (Robert) Hron all of the Beaver Dam area, grandchildren: William Caughlin, Tara (Jason) Okon, Kerry (Paul) Wolfgram, Tracy (James) Lemke, Gary (Monica) Caughlin, Julie (Jonas) Zahn, Jason Haase, Jonah Haase, Joshua (Amanda) Hron, Nicholas Hron, Brian Hron: 19 great-grandchildren: daughter-in-law, Joanne Caughlin of Beaver Dam, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials would be gladly accepted in Esther”s name to the ARC of Dodge County, PO Box 173, Beaver Dam, WI 53916, or to the Dodge County Humane Society, N6839 State Road 26, Juneau, WI 53039.
