Eva Winter, age 88, of Janesville, died on Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Mary”s Hospital in Janesville.
Eva H. Winter was the daughter of Eric and Else Chedor and was born in Koenigsberg OSTP, East Germany on May 23, 1925. Eva had one older brother, Freddie Wolfgang Chedor, who was killed in 1944 during WWII at the age of 20. Eva was sponsored to the USA by Anna and Herman Moldenhauer of Iron Ridge, WI. Eva”s decision to come to the U.S. after being reunited with her parents in East Germany after the war was a difficult one, but her parents encouraged her to come here at the age of 25. She received a very warm and public welcome at the train station in Iron Ridge. Eva worked in hospitals as a food server and housekeeper; this is where she met her husband, Virgil Winter. They were married September 30, 1970 and Virgil passed away on May 21, 2000 with Eva by his side. To Eva”s “Honey Bunnies”, thank you all for everything and may God bless you. Eva was so well cared for by many who loved her, an enormous thank you goes out to Agrace Hospice, Cedar Crest and Rock County”s Stop Gap Program.
A Celebration of Eva”s life will be held at Golden Acres Apartments (1601 N. Randall Ave., Janesville) on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 5:30 PM.
