Florence Washtock Bykowski (Novak) passed away on Wednesday December 19, 2012 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
Visitation for Florence will be at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 511 S. Spring Street in Beaver Dam, on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Fr. Charles Scheuerell officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick”s Cemetery.
Florence was born on April 4, 1917 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Joseph and Catharine (Fliss) Novak. She was just 3 years old when her birth mother died. Her father married Florence Imerfall, who became a second loving mother to Florence. She grew up in Beloit, Wisconsin where she attended both grade school and high school. Florence married Arthur E. Washtock in 1939 at St. Patrick Church in Beaver Dam, where they raised three sons. Arthur passed away in 1967. In 1971, Florence married Ervin Bykowski. She worked for 15 years at Elliott”s Model Apparel Store. She was a member of St. Patrick Church for over 70 years and a charter member of both the Christian Women”s Society and the Daughters of Isabella. Her volunteer work included Meals on Wheels, Red Cross Blood Bank, Hillside Manor Nursing Home, and St. Patrick”s Bazaar for which she made and donated beautiful afghans used for the yearly door prize. Florence loved to golf and belonged to Sunset Hills for over 20 years. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. Most of all, she loved being with her family.
Survivors include her sons A. Robert (Joan) Washtock and James (Sharon) Washtock; her daughter-in-law, Sandy Washtock; 7 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 step children, Carl (Mary) Bykowski, Mary (Ron) Frigge, and John (Rose) Bykowski; 7 step grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; 2 brothers, James (Yvonne) Novak and Joseph Novak; along with several nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; second husband, Ervin (1997); her son, Thomas Washtock; brother, Norbert Novak; 2 sisters-in-law, Marjorie Novak and Ione Novak; niece, Kathy Novak; and 2 infant brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Catholic School.
