Franklin ‘Franny’ Albert Pieper, 100 years old, of Mayville, died on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Hope Health and Rehabilitation in Lomira with his family by his side.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville with the Rev. Fr. Tom Biersack presiding. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 3 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in Mayville. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #69.Franny was born on July 16, 1916 to Frank and Louise (Wendorf) Pieper in Mayville, WI. He was united in marriage to Ann E. Sokoly on May 6, 1950 in Mayville. Franny was a veteran of the US Army. He was retired from the Maysteel Corporation. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. Franny was an avid outdoorsman who loved being out in nature while hunting, fishing, and trapping or just spending time on the marsh. His love and respect for the outdoors was passed on to many a grateful young person. He was also very handy and helped many people with carpentry projects around the area. Franny enjoyed wood working and carving as well and made fishing nets, snow shoes, and carved decoys and other decorative pieces. He will be fondly missed by many.Franny is survived by his daughter- Joann (Barry) Thompson of Theresa. His grandson- Theo (Laura) Thompson. Great grandchildren- Colin and Mikaela. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.Franny is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ann, granddaughter Alissa, 3 sisters- Ilona Sawyer, Adeline Benzel, and Lorraine Crown, 2 brothers- Elhart and Elsmer Pieper.
