Franklin Otto Schlegel, age 80, died Monday, October 8, 2018 at Clearview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Juneau. Visitation for Franklin will be at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Funeral services will follow at church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Stratman officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Franklin was born on June 29, 1938, at home, to the late Art and Erna (Witt) Schlegel and later graduated from Waupun High School. On November 7, 1959, he was united in marriage with Shirley Wolc at St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church in the Town of Trenton. Franklin was a farmer in the Fox Lake area in his early years and then worked at the Dodge County Highway Department until his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards, chatting with people, and watching westerns. Franklin was a huge Packer, Brewer and Badger fan. Survivors include his four children and their families, Kevin (Trish) Schlegel of Colorado and their family, Ashley (Henry) Thomas and their son Nico, as well as Austin, Dakota and Noah Schlegel; Greg (Dianne) Schlegel of Georgia and their family, Eric and Abigail Schlegel; Jeff (Sheila) Schlegel of Beaver Dam, and their family, Kayla Schlegel and Myah (Jacob) Bruins; and Melissa (Brent) Uttech of Beaver Dam and their family, Alexis, Shelby, Kaiser, and Cooper Uttech; other relatives and friends. Franklin was preceded in death by his father, Art; his mother, Erna; his stepfather, Sam Buchanan; and his wife, Shirley in 2004. If desired, memorials may be made in Franklin O. Schlegel’s name to St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
