George S. Herold, 73, of Columbus passed away on Wednesday, January 06, 2010 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus with Rev. Daniel Sims officiating. A visitation will also be held on Friday, January 8th from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus.
George was born the son of Herbert and Ruth (Yuds) Herold on April 16, 1936, and was a lifelong resident of Columbus. He was married to LaVon Wodill on March 7, 1959. George worked as a welder until his retirement. He was a great hunter and fisherman and also an avid bowler. Later in life, George enjoyed putting together puzzles in his home. George was a lifelong member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Columbus. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
George is survived by his two children: Jon (Bev) Herold of Columbus and Dawn Schmiedel of AZ; two brothers: Marvin Herold of Columbus and Ronald (Ethel) Herold of Beaver Dam; two grandchildren: Sherilyn Kirchoff and Derek Kirchoff; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife LaVon on October 14, 1999, his son Duane on June 23, 1973, and his grandson Mitchell Kirchoff on August 10, 2002.
