Geraldine M. Riese, age 82, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
The visitation will be at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 127 E. Maple Ave., in Beaver Dam, on Monday, October 5, 2009 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church on Monday at 11:00 AM with Fr. Jose Gonzalez officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary”s Cemetery in Lost Lake, Wisconsin.
The former Geraldine Marie Biel was born on September 1, 1927, to Leonard and Claire (Haas) Biel, in the Town of Calamus, Dodge County, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of Randolph High School. Gerry worked for Northwest Airlines from 1946 to 1947 in Minneapolis, then at Mullin Pontiac in Beaver Dam. Her biggest occupational role, other than being a mother, was at Beaver Dam Community Hospital, where she worked for over 19 years as an admissions specialist. Gerry was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish and a member of Lost Lake – Randolph Historical Society. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, and enjoyed being outdoors and hiking. Gerry was a very talented person and it showed in her knitting and crocheting projects. She was also an accomplished artist in painting and enjoyed her flower garden.
Survivors are her children, Donna (David) Schraufnagel, Columbus, James Riese, Beaver Dam, Diane (James) Sumwalt, Richland Center, Ronald Riese, Columbus and Steven (Valerie) Riese, Beaver Dam, ten grandchildren, Daniel, Eric and Joseph Schraufnagel and Dawn Cook, Nicole Ehlers and Tamara Finley, Richard, Randall, and Angela Riese, and Bradley Kline, six great grandchildren, a brother, Delwyn (Mary) Biel, Lost Lake, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Leone Everett, and her former husband, and father of her children, William Riese, in 2007.
