Services: A funeral service for Gordy will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Horicon, WI with Rev. Daniel Seehafer and Rev. Jonathan Szczesny officiating.
Visitation: A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, from 11 :00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church.
Gordon ‘Gordy’ John Keup, age 74 of Horicon, WI, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam.
A funeral service for Gordy will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Horicon, WI with Rev. Daniel Seehafer and Rev. Jonathan Szczesny officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, from 11 :00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place at the Oakhill Cemetery in Horicon, where graveside military rites will be conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post # 157.
Gordy was born on May 7, 1939 in Reed City, MI to Helmuth and Paula (nee Koepsell) Keup. He was a 1957 graduate of Horicon High School and a 1961 graduate of UW-Platteville University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in industrial engineering. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard from 1957-1962. He was united in marriage to Suzanne Marie Leitzke on December 14, 1968 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon. He devoted 31 years at Mayville Metal Products as an estimator. He also sold cars part time at a few local dealerships. He then owned and operated Gordys Auto Sales from 1983 until he retired in 2003. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir, was an usher, and also served on the school board. He was also on the Horicon Chamber of Commerce.
He was a devoted servant to his Lord, church, family, and his friends. He helped many people with his generous heart. His passion for racing was his true enjoyment. He raced endure-karts all over the country from 1963-1975. Some of his most memorable tracks were Indianapolis Motor Speedway, The Milwaukee Mile, and Road Atlanta. He received numerous top 5 finishes. He also truly enjoyed being a race car owner from 1990-1999 for many great drivers that raced his cars at the local tracks.
Gordy is survived by his loving wife- Suzanne of Horicon; his 2 daughters- Jacqueline Schultz of Cudahy and Sheryl (Michael) Manion of Cudahy. His son – Eric Keup of Horicon. His brothers- Allan (Janet) Keup of Springfield, IL. and Ronald (Karen) Keup of Sagana, MI. His 3 grandchildren- Nicholas, Leah, and Jacob. He is further surived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
