Harold C. Winter, age 73, of Juneau, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Visitation for Harold will be at the Murray Funeral Home in Reeseville, on Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at church on Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral service will be held at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lowell on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Paul Vander Galien will officiate. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery in the Town of Lowell, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Harold Clarence Winter was born on July 18, 1937 in Wisconsin to the late Clarence and Laura (Benninger) Winter. On June 26, 1960, he was united in marriage with Sharleen Kohls in Beaver Dam; together they had four children. Sharleen preceded Harold in death in 1994. On August 30, 1997, he was united in marriage with Mary Minnig-Goodrich. Harold farmed throughout his life; he farmed in the Town of Lowell until 1987 and then he farmed with both Louis Nehls and the Nehls Brothers in Juneau. He enjoyed polka dancing, going to Ho-Chunk Casino, and an occasional “Old Fashion” with just a little ice. He was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lowell. Harold always treasured the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. Not only will he live on in his children and grandchildren, but, in death, Harold gave the gift of life through tissue donation so that others may live a happier life, too.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Winter of Juneau; four children, Lisa (Jeff) Schoenwetter, Kristine Winter, Ross (Katie) Winter, and Jill (Lawrence) Langkau; three step children, Greg (Lisa) Goodrich, Brenda (Jeff) Matthias, and Rhonda M. Fitzgerald (Chuck Neuman); seven grandchildren, Ben Schoenwetter, Andrew Stock, Justin Vinz , Jessica Vinz, Alec Langkau, Blake Winter, and Wade Winter; five step grandchildren, Amanda (Todd) VandeBerg, Caitlyn Mason, Wyatt Goodrich, Marshall Goodrich, and Jack Fitzgerald; two great grandchildren, Mylee Fuerst and Cole Vandeberg; two sisters and a brother, Delores Topel, Robert (Marianne) Hafenstein, and Doris (Gary) Scheel; a sister-in-law, Donna Hafenstein; his mother-in-law, Anna Minnig; his wife Mary”s brothers and sisters, Walter (Genie) Minnig, Ruth Gassmann, Werner Minnig, Fred (Janet) Minnig, and Robert (Sandy) Minnig; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; an infant son; a brother, Jerome Hafenstein; other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; a nephew, Kevin Hafenstein; and a niece, Sheri Kaul.
