Harold ‘Bing’ Frederick Schwantes, 84, of 372 Ridge Rd., Juneau passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Browns Corner with Rev. Leonard Payton officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville, and also on Saturday, January 9th from 12 (noon) until 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon.
Harold was born the son of August and Henrietta (Schmidt) Schwantes on July 21, 1925 in the township of Hubbard. He was married to Darlene Roll on May 14, 1949 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon. For many years, Harold farmed in the township of Hubbard. Later, he was employed with Mayville Metal Products until his retirement in 1990. Harold was a longtime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Browns Corner serving as an usher, a member of the church council and treasurer of the St. Johns Mens Club.
Harold is survived by his wife Darlene of Juneau; his children: Norman (Barbara) Schwantes of Menomonee Fall, Wayne Schwantes of Eau Claire, Harlyn (Lynda) Schwantes of Wisconsin Dells, Leila (Keith) Lemerond of Horicon, Linda (Jim) Grebe of Fond du Lac, Dale (Susan) Schwantes of Horicon, and Warren Schwantes of Eden; his sisters: Erna Nagel of Watertown, Dolores Dahnert of Mayville, and Hazel (Louis) Benter of Mayville; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Herbert, Erwin and Arnold, his three sisters: Amanda, Elsie and Leora, and his great granddaughter Celeste.
