Harvey O. Gietzel, age 98, longtime resident of Horicon passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Clearview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Juneau.Funeral Services for Harvey will take place on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon with the Rev. Jon Szczesny officiating. A visitation will take place on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Horicon with military honors conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post #157.Harvey was born the son of Frank and Eleanora (Drews) Gietzel on June 3, 1919 in the town of Williamstown, Dodge County. He was baptized on June 22, 1919 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon. He attended school in Burnett and helped with farming at home with relatives and friends. He served his country in the Army and proudly served during World War II. He then joined his brother Erv with Cities Service Station, which he later took over and ran for many years. He finished his career operating a service station and car wash in Horicon. In his spare time Harvey enjoyed trap shooting and hunting. He also enjoyed watching sports and playing softball and he sponsored a local team for many years. He especially enjoyed watching his grandkids play in his backyard. Harvey was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon as well as a member of the Horicon American Legion Post #157. He was also a lifetime member of the Horicon Rod and Gun Club. He was married to June Vellema and then later to Carol Karstedt, both of who preceded him in death. Harvey will be fondly remembered for his friendly, pleasant personality and caring spirit and for always having a smile on his face.Harvey is survived by his children- Joan (Wayne) Klug of Juneau and Steve (Amy) Gietzel of Fond du Lac. His 5 grandchildren-Jenny (Dennis) Schmidt of Hustisford, Beth (Mark) Justmann of Lowell, Nicole Gietzel, Ally Gietzel, and Zack Gietzel all of Fond du Lac. His 5 great grandchildren- Erica Tisdale, Emily Tisdale, Jacob Justmann, Morgan Justmann, and Travis Justmann. His 2 brothers- Frank Gietzel of Middleton and Gordy (Florine) Schwartz of Horicon. His sisters in law- Ruth Schwartz, Joyce Duffy, and Eldine Mast. His brother in law Lloyd Wagener. He is further survived by his other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, step father Gustav Schwartz, his former wives Carol and June, and 9 siblings- Ervin Gietzel, Merlin Gietzel, Hilbert Gietzel, Oscar Schwartz, Elmay Mercier, Wilbur Schwartz, Bernice Wagener, Pearl Muenchow, and Eleanor Schwarze.Special thanks to the staff at Matthew’s of Horicon for all of their care and support shown to Harvey and his family.Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Horicon and the Horicon Rod and Gun Club.
