Horst Karnau

Horst Karnau, age 79, of Horicon, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.A funeral service will take place at Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville on Saturday, May 27 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Petrie presiding. A visitation will take place on Saturday, May 27 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Horst was born on November 27, 1937 in Oldenberg, Germany the son of August and Elizabeth (Wilken) Karnau. He was united in marriage to Marie Louise Heitman in Germany. They moved to America in 1961. He was skilled carpenter tradesman who ran his independent business for many years. In his spare time, Horst enjoyed snowmobiling in the Ironwood area and loved to shoot pool. He also liked NASCAR. Horst also had a wonderful sense of humor and put a smile on many people’s faces. He also loved the time spent with his family and grandchildren and especially his companion and friend Joan Case since 2002.Horst is survived by his sons- Horst Charles Karnau and Thomas Ronald Karnau. His grandchildren and great grandchildren- Horst ‘Charlie’ (Chris) Karnau, James (Staci) Karnau and their son Madden, Tom (Gabby) Karnau and their children Jack and Stella. Victoria (Dominic) Snow and their children Sabrina, Nolan, and Aria. Axel Karnau, and Nicholas Karnau. His brother- Rolf (Inge) Karnau of Oldenberg, Germany. His friend and companion- Joan Case. Joan’s family- Adam (Sara) Case and their daughter Paige, Mark (Kristyne) Case and their daughters Clarice and Lydia, Ross (Michele) Case and their children Danielle and Eric Case, Nick (Amanda) Dobbert. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marie Louise.Memorials may be directed to the Mayville/Horicon Food Pantry’s.
