Ilona Leona Sawyer Sr.

Ilona L. “Onie” Sawyer, age 87, of Burnett, died on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Deerview Meadows in Mayville.

The visitation will be at Murray Funeral Home in Horicon on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. There will be a graveside service at Burnett Central Cemetery on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Steve Thomas officiating.

The former Ilona Leona Pieper was born on July 20, 1923 to Frank and Louise (Wendorf) Pieper. On June 29, 1946 she was united in marriage with Paul Sawyer at St. Mary”s Church in Mayville. Onie, along with her husband, was a long-time proprietor of Burnett Locker. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Burnett.

Survivors are her sons, Dan (Sandy) of Menomonee Falls, Mick (Lou) of Burnett, and Dean of Burnett, six grandchildren, Marc, Chris (Teresa), Melissa (Troy) Boetcher, Tony (Susan), Amber, and Brock, six great grandchildren, brother, Franklin (Franny) Pieper of Mayville, sister, Adeline Benzel of Waupun, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, Lorraine “Tootie” Crown, and brothers, Elsmer “Opper” Pieper and Elhart “Elly” Pieper.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Onie”s name to the Alzheimer”s Association, 620 S. 76th Street, Suite 160, Milwaukee, WI 53214.
