James D. Miller, age 84, of Beaver Dam, died Monday, August 16, 2010 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
There will be a rosary service for Jim at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 4:15 PM. Visitation will begin immediately following the rosary service and will end at 6:30 PM. There will also be a visitation at church on Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 127 W. Maple Avenue, on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Fr. Michael J. Erwin will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
James D. Miller was born on March 8, 1926 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late Matt and Rose (Steil) Miller. He attended St. Peter Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1943. Jim served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was a member of the Clarence Keske VFW Post #1163 in Beaver Dam. On June 23, 1951, Jim was united in marriage with Helen T. Niehoff in Beaver Dam. He was employed at Zweck-Wollenburg Hardware until 1961 at which time he began his employment with the US Postal Service. During his career, Jim served as the Postmaster at Cambridge, Wisconsin for five years and later as an assistant to the Post Master in Beaver Dam before retiring in 1987. As a life-long member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Beaver Dam, he was active in many ways; Jim was a former Cubmaster of St. Peter Cub Scout Pack #24, he was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, and he was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and was a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, Beaver Dam Community Library, the Literacy Program, and Partners in Learning.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Miller of Beaver Dam; seven children, Peter (Ann) Miller of Minong, Michael (Yen) Miller of Springfield, Virginia, Timothy (Melicent) Miller of Lake Mills, Mary Miller of McFarland, Patrick (YongAe) Miller of Hoboken, NJ, Mark Miller of Beaver Dam, and Anne Miller of Monona; six grandchildren, Andrew, Michael (Anna), Katie, Sam, Ed (Michelle), and Allison; one great grandchild, Lindsey; his sister, Dorothy Klein of Madison; a sister-in-law, Teresa Miller of Beaver Dam; he is further survived by a brother-in-law, Raymond (Virginia) Niehoff; two sisters-in-law, Sr. Gertrude Niehoff and Mary Bobholz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Robert, in infancy; three brothers, Joseph, Clarence, and Richard (Jean); two brothers-in-law, John Klein and Donald Bobholz; and two sisters-in-law, Margaret Niehoff and Dorothy Niehoff.
If desired, memorials may be made in James D. Miller”s name to St. Katharine Drexel Parish, St. Katharine Drexel School Endowment, or to St. Katharine Drexel Conference of St. Vincent DePaul Society.
