Jay R. Zubke, age 82, of Horicon, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at St. Luke”s Medical Center in Milwaukee.

Visitation for Jay will be at Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Funeral services will follow at church on Saturday, beginning at 11:30 AM with Rev. Mark Hasty officiating. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Horicon.

Jay Robert Zubke was born on September 14, 1927 in Horicon, Wisconsin to the late Barney and Lillian (Ketelhut) Zubke. On July 23, 1955, he was united in marriage with June J. Larson in Milwaukee. She preceded Jay in death in 1980. He worked as an accountant at John Deere Horicon Works for over 30 years before taking early retirement. Jay was one of the first accountants to use computers at John Deere back in the day when a computer took up a room not just a space on a desk. On May 7, 1988, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Vander Schaaf. She preceded him in death in 1998. Jay was an active member of the Horicon community. He served on the Police and Fire Commission, as well as an election judge. Jay was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon where he served on the church council, and a charter member and past director of the Rock River Hills Golf Club.

Survivors include his three children, David (Sarah) Zubke and their two children, Christopher and Allison Zubke, all of St. Louis Park, MN, Robert (Kathleen) Zubke and their two children Alexandra and Andrea, all of New Berlin, and Ann Zubke of Beaver Dam; his sister, Kay Oakes of Waller, TX, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and second wife, his brother, Kenneth Zubke and his sister, Joann St. John.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Jay”s name to Zion Lutheran Church, 317 E. Walnut in Horicon, or to the American Cancer Society.
