Jean M. Veling, 82, of Waukesha passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at LindenGrove in Waukesha. Jean was born the daughter of Lawrence and Amanda (Straeseski) Veling on June 6, 1935 in Beaver Dam. After graduating high school in 1953 in Beaver Dam, she spent 36 years working for the Bell Telephone Co. in Beaver Dam, Fond du Lac, Neenah-Menasha, Appleton, Superior, Eau Claire and the Milwaukee area. She was a member of The Telephone Pioneers of American and the UW Alumni Association. Jean and her good friend, Lou Ann Wilcox enjoyed traveling to watch the UW football team starting at the Rose Bowl and ending with the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Jean and Lou went to many car shows with Lou’s 1961 Nash Metropolitan. They shared a cottage on Long Lake in Plainfield, WI where they had many loving friends in the area. For 13 winters, they were in Mountain Home, Arkansas. They made many lasting friendships there while getting away from the snow. Jean is survived by her two sisters: Loraine (Brian) Roedl and Marjorie Wild; her two brothers: Lawrence Veling and William (Connie) Veling all of Beaver Dam; many other relatives; and longtime friend, Lou Ann Wilcox of Waukesha. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard. A visitation will be held at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Beaver Dam. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to “Precious Patches Memorial Fund” started by Jean and Lou which helps and saves dogs and cats until they are adopted.
