Jerome Joseph Neumeyer, 80, of San Diego, CA, died October 7, 2017, of congestive heart failure. A celebration of Jerome’s life will be held on Saturday, December 9, at 11 a.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, from 10 a.m. until the time of prayer service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.Born in LeRoy, WI, on March 24, 1937, he grew up on the family dairy farm and was a novice with the Capuchin friars before leaving to earn a BA and MA in English/American Literature from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His daughter Ellen was born of his first marriage. He studied Literary Criticism in the PhD program at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. In 1968, he remarried. He taught Literary Criticism and literature at the University of Arizona, Tucson before earning his law degree at William Mitchell College of Law, St. Paul, Mn. He retired to San Diego after practicing real estate law for more than 20 years in St. Paul, Mn, with Commonwealth Land Title where he relished complex land title problems. Jerry was devoted to gardening, news, music, daily walks, travel, animals, film, “doing things right the first time,” and to his family. For years, he went to the North Shore of Lake Superior to hike in the woods each autumn. Dearly missed by his wife of 49 years Susan; his daughter Ellen Triebold (Robert) of South Bend, IN and granddaughters Kyra, Kelsey, and Chiara; sisters in WI Anita Steger (Merle-deceased), Arlene Beck (Gerald) and Mary Spiering (Robert) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by parents Regina Rohlinger and Adolph Neumeyer as well as brother Vernon Neumeyer. Memorials are welcome and may be given in memory of Jerome Neumeyer to Heifer Project International (heifer.org), National Public Radio (npr.org), The Nature Conservancy (nature.org), San Diego Early Music Society (sdems.org), San Diego Animal Humane Society (sdhumane.org), or the environmental group of donor’s choice.
