John Dennis Hill, age 82, of Beaver Dam, died Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.
Visitation for John will be at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM. Desserts and coffee will be served at the funeral home during the visitation. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, beginning at 2:00 PM. John Burgbacher will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin where the John E. Miller American Legion Post # 146 in Beaver Dam will provide military honors.
John was born on June 26, 1926 in Arkdale, Adams County, Wisconsin to the late John Curtis and Olive (Ronn) Hill. In 1930, he moved to Milwaukee where he later graduated from Solomon Juneau High School in 1944. Immediately after high school, John entered the United States Navy. He served in China and the Philippines during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 and attended two years of college. John married Barbara Downs in 1949 and they were blessed with three children. He worked at Bottled Gas in West Allis for 28 years. In 1973, he was united in marriage with Judy (nee Kapke). In 1978, they moved to Beaver Dam where they owned and operated John & Judy”s Hillsite Bar, retiring in 1992. John liked to fish, bowl, play pool and softball, and have a beer. He was a life-time member of the VFW in both Milwaukee and in Beaver Dam.
John is survived by his wife, Judy of Beaver Dam, his brother, Jack (Kathy) Hill of Tennessee, two daughters, Gayle (Bob) Jezewski of New Berlin and Kristin (Larry) Tarantino of West Bend, a daughter-in-law, Twylah Hill of Iowa, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, an uncle, Rex (Ione) Hill of Nekoosa, a sister-in-law, Linda Hill of Arkansas, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Eric, a brother, James, and a step son, Steven Keene.
The family suggests that memorials be made in John”s name to the Beaver Dam Veterans Center.
