John Neal Berk, age 56, of Horicon, died Monday 31 December at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital and celebrated New Year”s Eve in HEAVEN, 3 months after being diagnosed with stage IV, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. He was born on 24 September 1956, in Moline, IL. John attended St. Stephen Lutheran School- Horicon, Horicon High and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Active in Boy Scouts, John achieved the Eagle Award. He worked in various jobs in the metal fabrication industry. John was a life-long member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church – Horicon. His gentle, generous and caring spirit will be missed.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia “Penny” Berk (27 August 2000). He is survived by his father, Martin Berk of Horicon; his sisters, Tamara (Jan) Karlstrand of Cottage Grove, MN and Marcia (Ben) Fox of Orange Park, FL; brother, Robert Berk of Seal Beach, CA; nephew, Erik Steffen of Orange Park, FL; niece, Allison Karlstrand of Capistrano Beach, CA; nephews, Peter Karlstrand of Minneapolis, MN and Thomas Karlstrand of Fargo, ND; and friend, Marti Meyer and many other friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the spring when family and friends can join in the celebration of John”s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to a charity of your choice or St. Stephen Lutheran School.
