I was born on June 4, 1924, to Vilas W. and Ruth (Liebenow) Marohl, at the home of my grandparents, Charles and Mary Liebenow, at 107 S. Hubbard St. in Horicon. I graduated from Horicon High School in 1942. I then worked for Peterson Boat Works in Sturgeon Bay until February 24, 1943, when I entered the Army. I served with the Tech 4 48th Air Service Group, stationed in Boringuen Field, Puerto Rico. I was honorably discharged on March 17, 1946. On April 5, 1947 I was united in marriage to my dearest love, Mary Knop in Horicon. Together we had three loyal sons, John E., Charles P. and David W. I went to work for my father, Vilas, in the plumbing and heating business and later got my master plumbing license. On January 10, 1963 I took over the business and my son, Charles, joined the firm in July of 1978. In 1987, I sold the business to Dave DePover.
Throughout my life, I was affiliated with many different organizations. I was President of the Horicon Historical Society in 1974 and of the Horicon Community House Board of Directors until it was sold in 1989. I was also elected president of the Wisconsin State Plumbing Inspectors Association from 1982 until 1983 and was president of the Horicon Kiwanis Club from 1986 until 1987. My memberships included the Horicon Rifle Club since 1941, Horicon Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mayville where I served on many committees and the church council. Also, I was a member of the Beaver Dam Plumbers J.A.C Moraine Park Technical College from 1983 until 1990 and of the Horicon American Legion Post #157, serving as Commander in 1972 until 1973. I was certified by the State of Wisconsin as Building and Plumbing Inspector in 1975 and was the Inspector and Zoning Officer for the City of Horicon from May 1, 1975 until January 31, 1996.
My loving family includes my wife, Mary of Horicon, sons, John E. (Cynthia) of Grays Lake, IL, Charles P. (Catherine) of Eau Claire, David W. (Alice) of Sun Prairie, grandchildren, Dustin (Marcia) Price, Christopher (Nicole) Marohl, Michael Marohl, Peter Marohl, Elizabeth Marohl, Megan Marohl, Mathew Thompson, Elijah and Ethan Koller, sisters-in-law and brothers in law, Carolyn Maastricht, Margaret and Edward Knop, and Marcus McCorison, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
