October 7, 1945 - June 27, 2010

Joyce Diane Louise (Gietzel) Marks, 64, Appleton, WI, passed away on June 27, 2010 following a brief unexpected illness.

A visitation will be held at Murray Funeral Home in Horicon on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 PM. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 1:30 PM with Rev. Jonathan Szczesny officiating. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery in Horicon. The day will close with a celebration of life gathering of family and friends at The Legion (735 South Hubbard Street, Horicon, WI).

Joyce was born October 7, 1945, in Horicon, WI. She spent most of her adult life in the Fox Valley area. Joyce was a partner, sister, mother, grandmother, and most of all a friend to all she met. By her life example, she taught us to love, laugh and enjoy life, and to give of ourselves for those whom we loved. We will hold her in our hearts forever.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Evelyn (Christian) Gietzel, and many aunts and uncles. Survivors include her life partner, Don Hammack; sisters Janet Williams, Ruby Gietzel, Cheryl Christian, and brother Bob Gietzel; daughters Sheri Marks, Boulder, CO, and Susan (Marks) Miller, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Hattie and Ella Miller.

Memorial contributions can be sent to the family, care of Murray Funeral Home.

To the Gietzel family: I will always remember Joyce as I was growing up and spent alot of time at the house as a close friend of Cheryl''s. She had the most beautiful eyelashes I had ever seen and was truly a beautiful person! I am shocked by her sudden death and just wanted you to know you are in my thoughts.
