Karen Kay Straseske, age 68, of Lowell, died on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the Meriter Hospital in Madison after a long battle with cancer.
Visitation for Karen will be on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at the Murray Funeral Home in Reeseville from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Salem Lutheran Church in Lowell from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow on Monday at the church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul Vander Galien officiating. Her mortal remains will be laid to rest in the Grove Prairie Cemetery, Town of Lowell, Dodge County, Wisconsin, where they await the Lord”s coming on the last day.
Karen was born to Clem and Helene Krueger on February 17, 1940 in Columbus. She attended Zion Lutheran School in Columbus, graduated from Martin Luther High School in New Ulm and spent two years in an accelerated teacher course there. Karen was assigned to the one room school at St. John”s, Newville (Rural Waterloo). She married Jerry Straseske on October 13, 1961. Karen taught at St. Stephen”s Lutheran School of Beaver Dam for over 35 years. She enjoyed serving the Lord by playing organ at Salem Lutheran Church for 45 years where she was a long time member. Karen also taught Sunday school and was involved in Ladies Aid and the choir. She was an active participant in the WELS Wind Ensemble. Karen worked at Beaver Dam Care Center the last few years. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trip to Europe with her family in 2006. Karen appreciated the peace and quiet of Pioneer Park in Wisconsin Dells and the sunshine of Florida. Her Christian kindness and generosity touched the lives of many.
Karen is survived by her husband Jerry Straseske of Lowell, her four children, Pastor Andy (Glenda) Straseske of Winona, MN, Tiffany Straseske of Cudahy, Randy Straseske of Orlando, FL, and Craig (Julie) Straseske of Beaver Dam, her four grandchildren, Jacob, Bethany, Chase and Josh, her two sisters, Kathleen Krueger of Eckert, CO, and Marilyn (Ron) Buelow of Waukesha, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father, Ken Carles.
In keeping with Karen”s wish she preferred memorials be directed to Salem Lutheran Church, 105 Juneau Rd., Lowell, WI 53557 or St. Stephen”s Lutheran School, 412 W. Maple Ave., Beaver Dam, WI 53916.
