Keith Edward Gritt, age 74, of Horicon, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his home in Horicon with his wife and family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.A visitation will be at Sacred Heart Parish in Horicon on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church on Saturday at 12:00 noon with Fr. Mike Petrie officiating. Burial will be at St. Malachy Cemetery in Horicon. Military honors will be conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post # 157. Keith was born the son of Edward and Esther (Ruechel) Gritt on November 6, 1941 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was united in marriage on February 23, 1963 to Janet ‘Jan’ Kuchel at St. Joseph’s church in Appleton, WI. For over 50 years, Keith worked as a Barber in Black Creek, WI., Appleton, WI. and than the majority of his career in Horicon. He truly enjoyed all his work and the people that he came across. With his career he wasn’t able to travel as much as he would have liked but felt that his clients brought the world to him through their experiences and stories, for which he was grateful. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Horicon. Keith was also very active in his community of Horicon. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Lions Club, Horicon March Education Center, and the Horicon American Legion Post #157. In his spare time, he loved and cherished the time spent with his family and especially his grand and great grandchildren. Keith is survived by: His wife of 53 years- Janet. His children- Keith M. (Wendy) Gritt of Reedsburg, Kelly Kuhn of Beaver Dam, Wade (Heidi) Gritt of Arlington Heights, IL., Clint Gritt of Horicon, Heather (John) Vick of Sun Prairie, Kristin Gritt of Nashville, TN., Wyatt Gritt of Kodiak, AK, and Sweetpea of Horicon, WI. His siblings- Karen (Bert) Gietman, Eddie (Mary) Gritt, Mary (Jerry) Lawrence, Carolyn (Bruce) Fassbender, June (Terreson) Parr, Judy VerVoort, Christine Vander Zanden, Becky (Gary) Schaumberg, Steve Gritt, Michael, (Jeanne) Gritt, Kim (Bruce) Johnson, and Jennifer (Bob) Wagner. His grandchildren- Nick (Mary), Beth, Zachary, Josh, Josh ‘Porkchop’, A. J., Brandon (Beth), Brooke, Ryan, Molly, Claire, Danny, and Jessica. His great grandchildren- Charlie, Grahm, Marcus, Olivia, Jackson, Madison, Landyn, and Cooper. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, his son James Anthony in infancy, and brother in law Francis ‘Fran’ VerVoort.Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Parish.Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Beaver Dam Community Hospital, UW-Madison Carbone Cancer Center, and Beaver Dam Community Hospital – Hillside Hospice.Nobody can compare to the kind, compassionate, funny, and truly special human being that Barber Gritt was. He is the reason that many are inspired to be a better version of themselves and because of that, the world is a significantly better place. Thank you for you being you, Pops. Jan and Family. My deepest heartfelt sympathy in the passing of Keith. Since we moved to WI he was the only one who cut my husbands hair. Enjoyed his conversations with Keith. Then later years after Keith retired and I worked at Marvin's Manor when he would come and cut his old clients hair we would talk of times in Horicon. He was a great friendly man.

So sorry on the passing of Keith. He was a great man and a big part of horicon. Loved coming in to the barber shop to have my hair done and listen to him tell stories ,when I waited for kelly to be ready for me. Clint sorry as well. Please know that you all have such a great guardian angel now watching over you. Just keep in mind all the love and memories you hold and share. Peace and Prayers to you all.

Dear Jan & family, Dave and I extend our sincere condolences to all of you. Both Dave and Tyler enjoyed their time in Keith's barber chair, as Keith would always make it a point to inquire about how everyone in our family was doing with sincere interest. Dave is still struggling to find a barber who can cut like Keith could. He was a shining star in our small town, and we will always remember him as a genuine and kind friend. Wishing you all peace and comfort in the days to come.

It's hard not to smile when thinking back on memories of Jan and Keith! Keith was a truly kind and generous man with his time, talents and treasures. I used to take my son, Justin Hanefeld, to see Keith for his haircuts. Justin loved being up in that BIG CHAIR of his and seeing little Sweet Pea! My sympathies go out to you on the loss of a man who always took the time to listen, had a smile on his face, and was always in a good mood!

My thoughts and prayers are with the Gritt family during this difficult time. Keith was a great man, with a kind heart and a beautiful smile. He was the go to barber for the Horicon special needs kids at Van Brunt, and so many others in our community. He will be greatly missed by many. Rest in peace Keith where you are now free of pain and disease.
