Kenneth Helmer, 83, of Beaver Dam passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.
Funeral Services for Ken will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Philip Heyer officiating. A visitation will also be held on Monday, March 17th from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146.
Kenneth was born on January 3, 1931 the son of Fredrick and Emily (Weisof) Helmer in Cambria, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Janice Braun on June 5, 1954 in Juneau.
Ken was a faithful lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church; where he was confirmed in 1944. Ken proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict for three years. He was a member of the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146. He had been employed at Kraft Foods for 37 years.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janice; his daughters: Debi (Robert) Guenterberg of Princeton and Mary (Kevin) Schreiber of Beaver Dam; his sisters: Shirley Pritchard of Beaver Dam and Marion Budde of Round Lake, IL; two brothers: Elroy Bud (Audrey) Helmer of Freeport, FL and Ronald (Sherry) Helmer of Madison; his grandchildren: Chris Straseskie of Beaver Dam, John (Rebecca) Straseskie of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dr. Ryan Straseskie of Queens, New York, Theresa (Peter) Essmann of Oshkosh, Emily (Aaron Keeling) Rodewald of Madison, Amanda (Josh) Messerschmitt of Omaha, Nebraska, Heidi Rodewald of Phoenix, Arizona, Kelly (Jake) Kosikowskie of Clyman, Heather Schreiber of Beaver Dam and Derek Schreiber; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dianna Straseskie, grandson Sgt. Kirk Straseskie, son-in-law James Martin, two brothers: Merlin Helmer and Arthur Helmer and two sisters: Louella Page and Delores Garrett.
Ken enjoyed playing cards, deer hunting, and spending time with his faithful companion Lacey.
