Lawrence J. Kastenmeier, age 91, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Charleston House in Beaver Dam.
Visitation for Lawrence will be at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 South Spring Street in Beaver Dam, on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow, beginning at 11:00 AM. Fr. Jose Gonzalez will officiate. Burial will be at St. Peter”s Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Lawrence J. Kastenmeier was born on July 29, 1917 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late George and Celia (Schrier) Kastenmeier. He graduated from St. Peter”s Elementary School and then from Beaver Dam High School. Throughout his life, Lawrence farmed in the Town of Beaver Dam. He was a life-long member of St. Peter”s Catholic Church, currently St. Katharine Drexel Parish and had been active in the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Pope John XXII Council #1837 and a volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Meals-on-Wheels and the Dodge County Food Pantry. Lawrence enjoyed playing cards, trips to the casino, and watching the Brewers and Packers. He loved getting together with the family for holidays, birthdays and other family gatherings.
Survivors include his five children, Steve (Ellen) Kastenmeier of Beaver Dam, Jean (Richard) Kelly of Colgate, Catherine (James) Bloomfield of Maple Grove, MN, Janice (Ronald) Warmka of Beaver Dam, and Paul (Cathy) Kastenmeier of Beaver Dam, 19 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kenneth Kastenmeier, his brother Bernard Kastenmeier and his sister, Sr. Macarius Kastenmeier.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Lawrence J. Kastenmeier”s name to the St. Katharine Drexel Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the St. Katharine Drexel School Endowment Fund. Both can be sent to 131 W. Maple Avenue, Beaver Dam, WI 53916.
