Leland D. Townsend, age 87, of Lomira passed away peacefully on March 4, 2019 at the Waterford in West Bend with his family by his side.A funeral service for Leland will take place on Friday, March 8 at 12 noon at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville with the Rev. Allen Behnke officiating. A visitation will take place on Friday, March 8 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 noon at the church in Mayville. Leland was born the son of Robert and Katie (Williams) Townsend on July 21, 1931 in Cornucopia, Wisconsin. He was a 1949 graduate of Port Washington High School. Leland was united in marriage to Ardell Himstedt on May 1, 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fredonia, Wisconsin. Leland was a veteran of the Wisconsin National Guard, and where he served for nine years. Leland was employed as the Fleet and Transportation Manager for Ashland Oil, and after retirement, drove bus for Johnson Bus Company in Campbellsport. Leland was a faithful member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville.Leland is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Ardell, children, Kevin (Renee) Townsend and Beryl (Blaine) Tofte, his grandchildren, Stacy Townsend, Juliet Tofte, and Mark (Kaitlynn) Townsend, and great grandchildren, Grayson and Evalyn Townsend. Leland is further survived by sisters Joan (Richard) Mistele of Allouez, June Kroll of Evansville, Judy (Brian) Peiffer of Suamico, Deborah (Gary) Hoffman of Hales Corners, and his brother Jeffrey (Phyllis) Townsend of Port Washington. Leland also leaves behind nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale Townsend, and sisters Roberta Barber, Jeanne Pukas, Lora McInnis, and Kaye Miller.In lieu of flowers, Leland’s family would appreciate memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family wishes to thank the staff at Seasons Hospice, the Waterford at West Bend, Well Qor, and New Perspective Senior Living for the love, support and care that was provided to Leland and his family.
