Leona C. Kath, age 90, died on Friday, February 22, 2013 at her home in rural Reeseville.
The visitation will be at Lowell United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 9:30 AM until 10:50 AM. The funeral service will follow at the church on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Tim Worgan officiating. Burial will be at East Lowell Cemetery.
The former Leona Clara Stark was born on September 20, 1922 in the Town of Elba, Dodge County, Wisconsin to the late Arthur and Mertie (Schoenwetter) Stark. After graduating from Columbus High School in 1940, she worked at Krueger”s Grocery Store in Columbus for a couple of years. On November 26, 1942, Leona was united in marriage with Willard A. Kath at the Methodist Church in Columbus; together they farmed the family homestead. Having prepared thousands of meals, Leona was a wonderful cook and baker; she loved to bake pies and was renowned for her excellent angel food cake. She was a longtime member of Lowell United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She also made the chicken salad sandwiches for the ice cream social, a recipe several people asked her for through the years. A few of Leona”s simple pleasures were reading, listening to music, and watching the birds, especially the cardinals. Leona had a talent for the lost art of letter writing and her letters were always appreciated by her friends and relatives.
Survivors include her children, Robert Kath and Susan Kath, both of Reeseville; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Stark; her dog, Abbie; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard in 2006; her daughter, Cheryl Kath in 2004; her sister, Elaine (Bernie) Baerwald; her brother, Gilbert Stark; and her sister-in-law, Ruth (Bob) Mathwig.
If desired, memorials may be made in Leona Kath”s name to Lowell United Methodist Church or to Hillside HomeCare/Hospice.
