Lester W. Marx, Sr., age 86, of Horicon, died Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital in Beaver Dam.
Visitation for Lester will be at the Murray Funeral Home in Horicon on Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home on Thursday, beginning at 2:00 PM. Rev. Mark Hasty will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin.
Lester William Marx was born on May 6, 1923 in Elba, Wisconsin to the late Richard and Lena (Lentz) Marx. He served his country in the US Army 478th Ordnance Evacuation Company in Europe during World War II. On February 28, 1948, Lester was united in marriage with Rose Updike in Dubuque, Iowa. He worked at John Deere Horicon Works for 30 years, retiring on June 30, 1978. He was a member of the IAMAW Union Lodge # 873. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post # 157 and the VFW Post # 8057 in Horicon. Lester was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Horicon.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Marx of Horicon; four children, Lester W. (Barbara )Marx, Jr. of Beaver Dam, James E. (Shirley) Marx of Austin, MN, John R. Marx of Hastings, MN, and Barbara J. Heintz of Grand Marsh; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Beatrice (Duane “Pete”) Krueger of Horicon, Robert (Mary) Marx of CO, Carol Kurtz of West Bend, and Earl Marx of Juneau; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lester was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Lester”s name to Zion Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 317 E. Walnut in Horicon.
