Lorraine P. Vieth

Lorraine P. Vieth, 87, of Beaver Dam died Dec. 6, 2018, under comfort care following a short stay at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam. A memorial gathering for Lorraine will be at Trinity Church – United Methodist, 308 Oneida St. in Beaver Dam on Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon. A memorial service will follow at church on Saturday beginning at 12:00 noon with Rev. Cherie Forret officiating. A luncheon will take place at the church immediately following the service. Lorraine was born on Oct. 14, 1931, in rural Shawano County, Wisconsin, the daughter of William and Hulda (nee Ewert) Salzman. She graduated from Shawano High School and Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee. Interested in becoming a missionary nurse, Lorraine visited North Central College in Naperville, Ill., to learn about its program. While there, she accepted an invitation to go on a blind date with Arthur Vieth, a student at the nearby Evangelical Theological Seminary. On Sept. 12, 1953, she married him at the Seneca EUB Church in Tilleda, Wis. Besides being a homemaker and raising three children, Lorraine worked as a psychiatric and substance abuse nurse at a number of places, including Waukesha County, Dodge County, and Beaver Dam Community Hospital. She was active in the church, taking part in the United Methodist Women group, mission projects, and Bible and other inspirational book study groups. Her interests included continuing education, reading, writing, and water aerobics at the YMCA of Dodge County, listening to classical music on public radio, and watching public television. She and Arthur enjoyed traveling, visiting most of the United States and numerous Canadian provinces. Lorraine had a keen sense of intellectual curiosity throughout her life and a warm sense of humor. Lorraine is survived by her three children, Barbara of Wausau; Mark of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Susan (Patrick) Brettingen of Franklin; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers and three sisters. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff members of Hillside Manor for their compassionate care.
